Cuisine American
- 1 Cup Warm Water
- 1 Tbsp Yeast
- 1 tsp Kosher Salt
- 4 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Canola Oil
- 2 1/2 Cup Flour
Pour 1/2 cup of the warm water into a bowl. Add the yeast and dissolve. Combine the salt, sugar, and oil in the remaining 1/2 cup of water. Add this to the yeast mixture. Add the flour and mix until a soft dough has formed. Knead for 5-10 mins. Let stand 15 minutes. Form mixture into a large ball and let raise with a towel over the bowl for 30 mins.
Preheat fryer or pan of fry oil to about 365-375 degrees F. Form the dough into 5-6 smaller balls. Flour the counter and use a rolling pin to roll each ball in a circle about 1/4 inch thick. When the oil is preheated, add the scones, one at a time to the oil. Cook each side in the oil until is starts to become golden brown. This takes 1-2 minutes each side. Remove the scone and place on a plate with a paper towel.
Top each scone with honey butter, honey, or your favorite jam or jelly. These also make a great base for Navajo Tacos. Just top with chili, cheese, and sour cream. Enjoy!
