Ingredients

Filling

  • 5 Large Apples (Whatever variety you like)
  • 1 Tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Smoked Kosher Salt
  • 1/8 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1/3 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Caramel Sauce

Crumble

  • 1 Cup Flour
  • 1 Cup Old-Fashioned Oats
  • 1/3 Cup Pecans or Walnuts
  • 1/3 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Smoked Kosher Salt
  • 1/2 Cup Melted Butter

Instructions

  • Preheat your smoker to 350 degrees F. Peel, core, and slice the apples. Place in a large mixing bowl. Add the rest of the ingredients for the filling. Mix well and add to a 12 inch cast iron pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, add all of the ingredients for the crumble. Mix together with your hands, or a fork until it turns into a crumble. Evenly sprinkle the crumble over the top of the apples in the cast iron pan.
  • Place the cast iron pan directly on the grate of the smoker. Smoke for 40-50 minutes, or until the crumble is golden brown. Remove from the smoker, and enjoy! Serve with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream.
  • Note: Apple, and hickory wood are a great combination for this recipe. Pecan would also be delicious. Try to avoid mesquite or oak.
