Ingredients

Filling

  • 5 Large Apples (Whatever variety you like)
  • 1 Tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Smoked Kosher Salt
  • 1/8 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1/3 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Caramel Sauce

Crumble

  • 1 Cup Flour
  • 1 Cup Old-Fashioned Oats
  • 1/3 Cup Pecans or Walnuts
  • 1/3 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Smoked Kosher Salt
  • 1/2 Cup Melted Butter

Instructions

  • Preheat your smoker to 350 degrees F. Peel, core, and slice the apples. Place in a large mixing bowl. Add the rest of the ingredients for the filling. Mix well and add to a 12 inch cast iron pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, add all of the ingredients for the crumble. Mix together with your hands, or a fork until it turns into a crumble. Evenly sprinkle the crumble over the top of the apples in the cast iron pan.
  • Place the cast iron pan directly on the grate of the smoker. Smoke for 40-50 minutes, or until the crumble is golden brown. Remove from the smoker, and enjoy! Serve with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream.
  • Note: Apple, and hickory wood are a great combination for this recipe. Pecan would also be delicious. Try to avoid mesquite or oak.

One of my all-time favorite desserts is apple crisp. Cinnamon, brown sugar, and apples go together better than just about anything in this world. My favorite 2 things about Autumn are apples, and pumpkin. Apples get to dominate this recipe.

If you have a cast iron pan, this dessert gets even better. The flavors and textures that you can achieve with cast iron, are a huge game changer. This recipe is incredible in the oven, but even better on the smoker.

Fire up your smoker, throw down some of this incredible Apple Crisp, and you will not be disappointed.
