I absolutely love sweet and spicy food. One of my favorite ways to give food sweetness is with honey. Lucky for our family, my dad raises honey bees as a hobby, so we have plenty enough to enjoy.
As far as heat is concerned, I have come to really enjoy chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. One day I decided to pair honey and chipotle together in beautiful dipping sauce and glaze. It has now turned into my favorite sauce for chicken wings and my favorite dipping sauce for fries and chicken tenders.
This sauce is super honey-heavy, which I love, but you have to be careful with grilling it at high heat because it can burn very easily if you aren’t paying enough attention. My favorite way to enjoy this sauce is on smoked chicken wings. When I make them, I usually buy those super simple raw party wings that come frozen at the grocery store. They are really affordable, which is great for a family like mine that is living on a tight budget. I like to rub the wings with my Sweet Paprika Rub. I usually smoke them for around 2-2 1/2 hours.
After they are done I simple toss them in the Honey Chipotle Sauce. If I am feeling really daring, I like to crank the heat of the smoker up to 400 degrees and throw the wings back on for a few more minutes after they are sauced. It’s a gamble because the honey can burn easily, but if you keep a close eye on them they turn out great. The sauce ends up being even more sticky and messy after a couple minutes, but that is basically a dream come true in wing heaven.
I hope you guys enjoy this sweet and spicy sauce as much as we do! It’s great for a football game or a party, or wherever the heck you want it.
