Ingredients

Base

  • 1 Stick Butter
  • 1 Cup Brown Sugar

Custard

  • 4 Eggs
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • 1/2 Cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 Tbsp Vanilla
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp Nutmeg

Bread and Topping

  • 1 Loaf Texas Toast
  • 2 Tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp Powdered Sugar

Instructions

  • For the base, melt the cube of butter in a bowl.  Mix the brown sugar in until it is evenly incorporated.  Spread evenly on the bottom of a greased 9×13 baking dish.  Cut each slice of bread into small cubes.  Each slice usually gets me about 9 cubes.  Place half of the bread cubes on top of the base in the baking sheet.
  • In a mixing bowl, completely mix all of the ingredients of the custard together.  Pour half of the custard mixture on the bread cubes that are already in the baking dish.  Place the rest of the bread cubes on top.  Pour the rest of the custard mixture on top of the bread cubes.  Try your best to get at least some custard on each bread cube.
  • For the topping, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together.  Sprinkle evenly over the bread cubes.  Cover tightly with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 2-4 hours.
  • Preheat your oven or pellet grill to 350 degrees.  Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.  After 30 minutes, remove the foil and let bake uncovered for 10-15 minutes.  Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.  Lightly sprinkle powdered sugar over the dish.  Serve with fresh fruit and a light serving of maple syrup. Enjoy!

Buckle up for one of the best breakfasts’ in the entire world.  Behold, my spin on French Toast.  We absolutely love French Toast at our house.  We have an abundance of eggs, thanks to our army of chickens, so we are always looking for great uses for eggs.  This French Toast was willing to step up and be the hero.  We seriously love this stuff.  You get just the right amount of crunchy, with a nice touch of creaminess from the custard.  This recipe was actually pretty easy to make!

If you love brown sugar, this is the recipe for you.  With the crunch and sweetness coming from the top and bottom of this dish, you will be in heaven.  On top of this dish being really delicious, it is really affordable to make.  I love to use Texas toast for this recipe, because it is really cheap, and the perfect thickness.  Some people like to use really dense bread, but Texas toast is perfect for this recipe.

This recipe is so darn sweet, you don’t really even need to use syrup, but maple syrup is still really good on top.  Add some fruit on the side and you have a nice, and…… “healthy” recipe. 😉  I hope you enjoy this as much as we did!
