Scones
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Warm Water
- 1 Tbsp Yeast
- 1 tsp Kosher Salt
- 4 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Canola Oil
- 2 1/2 Cup Flour
Instructions
- Pour 1/2 cup of the warm water into a bowl. Add the yeast and dissolve. Combine the salt, sugar, and oil in the remaining 1/2 cup of water. Add this to the yeast mixture. Add the flour and mix until a soft dough has formed. Knead for 5-10 mins. Let stand 15 minutes. Form mixture into a large ball and let raise with a towel over the bowl for 30 mins.
- Preheat fryer or pan of fry oil to about 365-375 degrees F. Form the dough into 5-6 smaller balls. Flour the counter and use a rolling pin to roll each ball in a circle about 1/4 inch thick. When the oil is preheated, add the scones, one at a time to the oil. Cook each side in the oil until is starts to become golden brown. This takes 1-2 minutes each side. Remove the scone and place on a plate with a paper towel.
- Top each scone with honey butter, honey, or your favorite jam or jelly. These also make a great base for Navajo Tacos. Just top with chili, cheese, and sour cream. Enjoy!

Scones are one of my favorite breakfast foods. Growing up, my parents would make scones from time to time, and I will never forget it. They were always topped with cinnamon and sugar, honey, honey butter or some kind of jam. They are delicious! They are crispy on the outside, yet soft and fluffy on the inside.
One of my favorite things about scones, is the leftovers. They make the perfect base for Navajo Tacos. Just throw some chili, cheese, and sour cream on top and you have an amazing Navajo Taco!
If you are one of those people that loves fried food, this is a recipe to pay attention to. The benefit to frying these things, is that you get a nice crispy outside layer. The dough is super easy and quick to make. Even though the dough is a quick recipe, it is still soft and delicious in the center. I use this dough recipe for everything! It makes a great pizza dough, great white bread, and it is just absolutely perfect for scones. Enjoy!
